The #1 issue I deal with every single day with Leaders is the extreme challenge to resolve issues with their teams, help support others who have communication issues with each other and talk straight when needed. Most of us have not had training or practice to lean into frustrations, upsets, dysfunction, complaining or blaming. We all have done all of the above ourselves and we see it every day with our peers, people who work for us and the people we work for.
There are even times when you have attempted to lean in. And, if those times did not work out in a positive way, we say to ourselves, “I will never do that again” and we move on.
We learn to strategize, avoid, deflect and give it to someone else to handle because we need to “Get Back to Work”.
There are tons of ways to learn how to deal with conflict, uncomfortable conversations and everything I said above. There are tips, techniques, books, etc, with great information. Those things will not work until you are ready as a Leader to realize that taking on this area is a very Larger Part of your Job. Being a Leader is about the people around you. The people around you are producing the result. To empower them to be successful, there are breakdowns, personality conflicts, people with different styles, different way of thinking on and on.
Committing to learning this skill is a Must as a Leader. 99% of your success will be when you Commit to learning and know that it will take months and maybe years for you to get really good at it. PRACTICE IS THE ONLY WAY.
YOU CAN’T GET GOOD OR GREAT AT SOMETHING WITHOUT PRACTICING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
